Luminous engine vs unreal engine 4 reddit11/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Unbiased path tracers are extremely slow, nothing close to real time. "Unbiased" means that every ray of light in a scene is calculated and eventually outputs a physically accurate (which depends on the model being used) color for a pixel. UE4 or UE5 are not close to unbiased path tracers. And this approach just breaks down in certain situations. UE5 is the definition of clapping so many post process effects on an image that it looks good. Path tracing (Nobody uses Raytracing it is all Pathtracing) looks good in every situation and does not need a shitton of post processing to look decent. And that is just a limitation of how this style of Rendering fundamentally works. Especially low light with small contrast. There are a lot of cases when the Engine just dosnt look good anymore. Once you change a bit of stuff you realise why. Really bright, really big and Photorealistc. No matter what Demo scene / file you look at, they all kind of look the same. From what i have seen so far, there is somewhat of a limitation in what style you can actually render. Why ? Because UE5 is meant to look pretty and realistic. Can you make one with the same quality as say Pixar ? Absolutly fucking not. So could you make a full lenght movie with UE5 ? Sure. Were as in reality, it is just another tool or specific use cases. There is lots of Hype around UE5 which is really not helping it since people seem to assume this is some kind of fundamental game changer. ![]() Either for technical limitations or because of Physical ones. So if you can use that in your Movie production. Meanwhile Maya is made for CG productions so it has all the features you need / want.īut of course UE5 still has better real time rendering. So on the bases of what can do more and looks better, well Arnold / Maya wins.įurthermore, UE5 is a game engine which comes with very fundamental limitations. UE5 is pretty bad with those which is a problem in a World where every fucking scene has some kind of Volumetric effect in it. Having said that its still real time rendering so there are obvious issues. UE5 just needs a lot less scene optimisation. Since at the end of the day, they both just kitbash. It takes basically the same amount of Work to make the same scene in Maya vs UE5. But people tend to forget that all of those fancy drag and drop videos are more often than not lies. There is a lot of hype around UE5 which is deserved. or redshift.Īs for Quality, well you cant really compair it.
